A charming Charleston anniversary session at Boone Hall

Filed in post_categories

I photographed John + Sidney’s beautiful wedding in Virginia five years ago. When I met them for the first time during their engagement portraits, I fell in love with them instantly – it’s hard not to. I think the most amazing thing about anniversary portraits (aside from the feeling I get from the fact that these people have repeatedly given me the honor of photographing some of the biggest moments of their lives), is seeing first hand, from behind the lens, how their love has deepened since the wedding day and hearing all about the family they’ve started and the adventures they’ve had.

When they arrived at Boone Hall Plantation to meet us for their session, Tim and I had just finished scouting locations before it began to pour. We sat in the car for a few minutes, willing the rain out of existence, when Sidney looked at me through our cracked car windows and motioned that we should just go for it (YASS LOVE THIS GIRL). So, go for it we did and, let me tell you – if you’re going to photograph a couple in the rain, the filming location for The Notebook is the only way to do it.

The rain eventually cleared and the sun peeked through the clouds just in time for the most amazing end to our session, on infamous Oak Alley. Enjoy!

One of my favorite parts of the day was when I sneakily put John + Sidney’s first dance song on and had them take a moment to soak it in. They started dancing and a few moments in, I heard John whisper to Sidney, “do you know this song?” UGH these two are SO SWEET.
